When is dual-bank OTA required over single-slot updates?

Direct answer

Dual-bank OTA is needed when power loss is likely, field service is expensive, or rollback must be nearly atomic. Single-slot updates with external flash can work for devices that are easy to recover over USB. For example, a remote gateway needs dual-bank safety more than a desk sensor serviced in the same room.
